Prince Elphin the son of Gwyddno Ganhir king of the canolbarth is set a task by his father to collect as much fish from the river as a last chance to prove himself as a worthy prince. However to his father's dismay and prince Elphin's joy he finds a basket with a baby inside who has an uncanny ability to speak and recite beautiful poetry! He promises to help and raise Taliesin as a royal bard or the Canolbarth.
